Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
Hawa Mahal also known as Palace of Winds and Palace of the Breeze, is a striking place to visit in the Pink City which was built by Maharaja Pratap Singh for the women of the royal family to enjoy the city street festivals that still usually took place in that area.
It is basically a five division pyramidal molded monument which stands 15 meters high with rooms at each division which are built up of different colored marbles. The interior side of the Hawa Mahal contains of a lot of beautiful latticed windows also known as Jharokas and has colored glass work done so when the sun light enters, the entire chamber fills with the spectrum of various colors.
The entry to the Hawa Mahal from the side of the City Palce is through a grand door which opens into a enormous courtyard having double storeyed buildings on three sides of the palace, with the Hawa Mahal enclosing it on the east side. An archaeological museum is also lodged in this courtyard.
This is all about the Hawa Mahal palace of Jaipur which is open to visitors between 9.30am. to 4.30pm. It is particularly striking when viewed early in the morning, lit with the golden light of sunrise.
